Jake: The Ultimate Cat Man

I mentioned this video about Jake, the Texan hermit who has adopted over five hundred cats from his local shelter, in my post a week or two back about old cats (Jake owned Creme Puff, the oldest ever cat, and Grandpa, who wasn't far behind him in years), but I thought I should post the vid itself, which is weird, macabre and inspiring at the same time, and almost certainly hasn't yet found its true audience...

That was fascinating! I was amazed to see the Sphynx, Devon Rex and other exotic breeds. I guess he must be doing something right for his cats to live so long.

That was awesome - thanks Tom! You are right - weird....but also inspiring. I have often wondered how many cats is too many cats....until Under The Paw I would have thought 5 would have been anyone's limit - might have to rethink that. Of course Squeaky thinks one cat (him) is the limit. I cant believe they get bacon and eggs for breakfast every day and their own theatre!!!!!!

Jake, you're my hero! Now THAT's my idea of a real man -- one who is compassionate, caring, personally responsible, and appreciative of beauty that is uniquely feline. Long may he be the savior to cats that he is! and may he be many times blessed.

What's the limit? Exactly the number you can feed, properly care for, accomodate comfortably and safely, and LOVE. It will vary from house to house and family to family. There should be no "quotas" as they mean many millions of blameless living beings lose their lives annually. The only limits should be the above.

Wow, that is so amazing. What a remarkable story! God bless Jake! He does feed them an interesting diet.

What a beautiful human being. I did kinda chuckle when he said that many people couldn't have cats because of allergies, so they have to have dogs or birds...as if having anything other than cats is settling for second-best!

There's a great deal of sadness there, but tenderness, too.

Jessica: I loved that bit too. I know what you mean - not sure I'd want to be him, but there would be far worse ways to see out your final years...
