My New Microchip Catflap

Apparently my new microchip catflap can store the chip numbers of up to 32 cats. Can't help being intrigued about the conversation between the manufacturers that led to this, during the catflap's creation. "Yep: I think 32 is the number. Everyone knows having 32 cats is ok. But 33? That's just WEIRD."

I see you have a Sure Flap. I have a Pet Porte which also scans up to 32 cats - so industry standard - but the mind boggles. I note that the Pet Porte instructions on how to register the cats' microchips shows a stuffed toy cat. They obviously know my Tabitha! Picking her up is like holding an animated roll of barbed wire.

I've discovered after 3 years that if you place a treat on the outside of the cat flap lip, the cat will stand under the scanner to eat it and that's the easiest way to scan it in. Wish I'd thought of that 3 microchip cat flaps ago!

The short answer is that 32 is a round number in binary :-)
