It looks like a live vole to me. (Though I'm more an expert on rats and mice, dead/alive/half and half).

Ah, Liz, I love that you live in a country where a vole is exotic. It's far smaller than a rat: like a more prosaic, small-eared mouse, if anything.
I love voles, they are a much more interesting 'present' than mice. The way they squeal like banshee's when you try to catch them!
