But you know this cat is actually expressing frustration - I bet it's looking out of a window watching a bird or something - they chatter like that when they can't get at the prey.....

Absolutely, If my cats are in the window and there is no bird, I just say "Birdies" and off they go, chattering away!

Yep, Kathryn and Penny are right. This cat DEFINITELY has birdlust.

My little psycho girl is so possesive of her garden that she makes this 'I see prey' noise when she sees other CATS out there!

Lily does this! She does it without sound though. She squeaks every so often when the excitment of a potential pigeon catch gets too much for her.

Just so you know we've always called it 'chittering'. As in "haha Lily is chittering at the birds again".

Just wondered if anyone else called it that?!......nope. Just me.

Chittering is good. There is of course another name for it in the Under The Paw Cat Dictionary: http://littlecatdiaries.blogspot.com/2009/05/by-request-that-cat-dictionary-in-full.html
