Heard a sound. Thought: "That's odd. Sounds like a duck pissing about in my conservatory." Went to look. Turned out there was a duck pissing about in my conservatory.
@T; a conservatory is a room that's neither outdoors nor indoors and is built by UK homeowners at great cost in order to be too hot in the summer, freeziing cold in the winter and to trap irate insects (or ducks). See, much clearer now.
The american equivalent would be an enclosed back porch, I'd say, although a conservatory usually has glass walls -and often a glass ceiling- not screened walls. Some are fair sized rooms, others more of a small lean to area between the house door and the conservatory door to the garden.
"Duck in my Conservatory" sounds like the title of a Gerald Durrell book
ReplyDeleteI'm just a stupid american. what's a conservatory?

ReplyDeleteThank you, Holly. Couldn't have put it better myself.
